A Whisker Away Anime Movie Plot Story

Miyo Sasaki Is An Unhappy High School Student Living In Tokoname City, Aichi Prefecture, Who Doesn’t Get Along With Her Stepmother. Every Day At School, She Struggles To Flirt With Her Beloved Kento Hinode, Despite His Repeated Rejections. One Day, Miyo Receives A Magical Noh Mask From A Mysterious Mask Seller That Allows Her To Become A Cat.

In The Role Of Taro, She Spends Time With Hinode At His House, Keeps Him Company While He Studies Japanese Ceramics And Listens To His Problems. She Longs To Confess That The Cat He Loves And The Girl He Hates Are One And The Same, But She Is Afraid That He Will Reject Her And Refuse To Meet Taro.

One Day, Miyo Overhears A Couple Of Boys At The School Talking Badly About Hinoda And Intervenes Loudly, Jumping Off The School Building To Defend His Honor. She Was Injured During The Jump, And For The First Time, Hinode Shows Warmth Towards Her When He Leads Her To The Nurse’s Office And Shares Lunch With Her.

Later That Evening, When Taro, Miyo Learns That The Hinode Family Is Closing Their Pottery Workshop As The Family Can No Longer Afford It. Hinode’s Kindness To Her, Combined With The Need To Cheer Him Up Due To The Loss Of His Hobby, Inspires Miyo To Confess Her Love In The Form Of A Letter. The Next Day In Class, The Boy Grabs The Note Before She Can Hand It Over And Reads It Aloud, Embarrassing Miyo And Hinode. Hinode Saves Face By Publicly Telling Miyo That He Hates Her.

Later, Miyo Visits Hinode As Taro And Spends The Night With Him. In The Morning, She Decides That Life With Hinode As A Cat Is Better Than Life Without Him As A Person, And Her Human Face Disappears Into A Porcelain Mask. The Mask Seller States That He Takes Miyo’s Face And Tells Her That He Will Give It To A Cat Who Wants To Become Human. Miyo’s Friends And Family Begin Looking For Her, Including Hinode, Who Confesses To Taro That She Doesn’t Really Hate Miyo.

Trapped In Her Feline Body, Miyo Begins To Lose Her Ability To Understand People And Regrets Her Choice. Kinako, Miyo’s Stepmother’s Cat, Receives Miyo’s Human Face From A Mask Seller And Takes Her Human Life. Miyo Pleads With Her To Return Her Face, But Kinako Refuses, Explaining That She Is Nearing The End Of Her Natural Lifespan, But Wants To Continue Living And Bring Happiness To Her Owner.

Miyo Follows The Mask Seller To The Secret Island Of Cats, Where She Hopes To Convince Him To Turn His Back Into A Human. Meanwhile, Kinako Realizes How Much Miyo’s Stepmother Loved Her Cat And Changed Her Mind. She Reveals The Secret Of Hinoda’s Masks And Takes Him To The Island To Rescue Miyo Before Her Transformation Becomes Permanent. Kinako Gives Hinoda A Cat Mask, Which Turns Him Into A Half Cat. Kinako And Hinode Were Trapped By The Mask Seller, But Were Rescued By Miyo And Another Cat, Who Was Previously A Human. When Kinako Is About, To Return Miyo’s Face, The Mask Salesman Takes Miyo Away.

While Hinode Eventually Finds Miyo, The Mask Vendor Takes Them To The “promised Place” And Tries To Complete Miyo And Hinode’s Transformation By Extending Their Lifespan But Is Thwarted By All The Outraged People He Had Previously Turned Into Cats. When They Return To The Human World, Miyo And Hinode Confess Their Love For Each Other, And Kinako Returns Miyo’s Face To Normal.

The Credits Show Miyo Telling Her Friend How Much Hinode Loves Her, Hinode Tells His Mother That He Wants To Do Pottery, And Hinode Gives Her Miyo’s Signature “Hinode’s Sunrise Attack.”
