Shokugeki no Souma

Shokugeki No Soma Anime

Teenage Soma Yukihira aspires to become his father’s chef, Joichiro’s family restaurant, Yukihira’s restaurant, and surpass his father’s culinary skills, but Joichiro gets a new job that requires him to travel the world and close his store. Joichiro must enroll in Soma at the Totsuki Sario Culinary Institute, an elite culinary school where students compete in cooking contests called shokugeki. He secures his place at the school, despite the objections of Erina Nakiri, the talented granddaughter of the dean of the school. Soma heads to the Polaris dorm where he meets other aspiring chefs, including Megumi Tadokoro.

The story follows his adventures as he interacts with his peers and challenges Totsuki students as well as other competitors in shokugeki competitions. Upon learning that his father was not only Totsuki’s student but also the second member of the Council of Ten, Soma plans to become the best in the academy. Soma and other freshmen participate in a culinary camp, which is assessed by school graduates, from which about a third of applicants are expelled. He competes in the Fall Classic, a top 60 freshman competition divided into eight students, who then compete in the only elimination tournament, the Fall Election. The freshmen then participate in weekly internships at local restaurants, as well as a large-scale, school-wide Moon Festival.

During the Festival of the Moon, Erina’s father, Azami, takes over the leadership of the school, while Soma and Erina form a rebel faction to challenge the establishment. The disaffected Council members join the rebel faction, and with the support of Joichiro and Gin, the rebels confront the Azami organization “Central” in the De Kizin regiment. Ultimately, the rebels win and oust Azami with Erina as the new director. After that, Soma and the others enter the second year. Several Fall Classic members were transferred to the council, replacing third-year graduates. Their first assignment concerns the existence of “dark chefs”, those who work with criminal organizations, and other VIPs. The special organization Les Cuisiniers Noirs is led by former protégé Joichiro Asahi Saiba, who defeated the former.

Asahi infiltrates Totsuki and kidnaps Erina from the Academy with the intention of marrying her. To cure Erina, the trio Soma, Megumi, and Takumi participate in the BLUE culinary competition organized by the World Gourmet Organization under the direction of the school director Mana Nakiri, Erina’s mother. The trio faces and fights the Dark Chefs, with Soma eventually defeating Asahi. The manga ends with Soma and Erina facing each other in the BLUE final match. Erina acknowledges Soma’s cooking, but insists on calling it “disgusting.”

In the events of the epilogue “Dessert” after the events of BLUE, Soma took an indefinite leave of absence before taking her third-year exams. During this time, Erina and Hisako ask Joichiro about his past with Tamako, while Mana and Azami discover that Asahi is Azami’s biological son and Erina’s half-brother, prompting the former to ask him to join the Nakiri family. Years, after all, Jewel Generation students graduate from Totsuki, Soma tells Erina that he is returning home and offers her another challenge, which she happily accepts, confident that he will make Erina finally say “delicious.”
